Brian Clauss

Park Ridge, IL

Brian Clauss is an arbitrator and mediator of labor and employment disputes from Park Ridge, Illinois. He is a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators and is the Regional Chair for the Central Midwest Region. He serves on a number of rosters including: the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, American Arbitration Association, National Mediation Board, National Railroad Adjustment Board and numerous local rosters and permanent panels. He began his legal career as a prosecutor in Cook County, Illinois and later represented Cook County in labor and employment matters.

Brian is a frequent lecturer at local, national and international continuing legal education events. He is one of the General Editors of both the recent handbook: Service Member and Veterans Rights and the Illinois practice guide: Military Service and the Law. He has also authored numerous chapters and articles including a chapter on the Uniformed Servicemembers Employment and Reemployment Rights Act for the forthcoming Random House book: The American Bar Association Guide for Military Families as well as the chapters entitled Off-Duty Conduct for the American Bar Association’s text Managing Workplace Violence, Public Employment for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Labor Law Handbook, and Called to Duty - Military Activation and the Impact on Labor Relations, in the Bureau of National Affair’s: Proceedings of the 2008 Meeting of the National Academy of Arbitrators. His law review article Alone in the Country-National Guard and Reserve Component Service and the Increased Risk of Homeless Among Rural Veterans was recently published in The Journal of Law in Society.

In addition to his dispute resolution practice, Brian is also the Director of the Veterans Legal Support Center at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago – a pro bono legal clinic that provides assistance to veterans in VA benefit appeals. He is a Board Member of LERA Chicago, a member of the Alumni Board at Lake Forest College and a member of the Oncology Advisory Board at Lutheran General Hospital.
