Gregory Firestone, Ph.D., is Director of the University of South Florida (USF) Conflict Resolution Collaborative and serves on the Editorial Board of Family Court Review. He has served 1) on the Florida Supreme Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules and Policy Committee for twelve years (including seven years as Committee Vice Chair), 2) on the Boards of Directors of the Academy of Family Mediators (AFM) and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), and 3) as Legislative and Public Policy Chair of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).  Gregory Firestone is also President of Global Resolutions, LLC, a mediation, mediation training and dispute resolution systems design provider.

 

Dr. Firestone is a licensed psychologist, mediator, mediation trainer and dispute resolution system consultant and has maintained a private family mediation practice since 1984.  Gregory Firestone is a 1) Florida Supreme Court certified Family, Appellate, Circuit Court, and Dependency mediator, 2) Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) Advanced Practitioner and 3) Diplomate Member of the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators.  He serves as primary trainer for numerous family meditation courses approved by the Florida Supreme Court and/or by ACR.  In addition, he regularly teaches a host of other negotiation and mediation courses.

 

Gregory Firestone served as Official Observer (on behalf of ACR and AFM) to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) Uniform Mediation Act Drafting Committee.  In addition, he has participated in Florida Supreme Court Committees and Subcommittees that have developed mediation rules which have been adopted by the Florida Supreme Court and mediation confidentiality provisions which have been adopted by the Florida Legislature.  

 

Dr. Firestone has received numerous awards including the 2002 Association for Conflict Resolution Presidential Award, the 2011 Florida Academy of Professional Mediators Merit Award, the 2012 AFCC Presidential Award and the 2012 Florida Supreme Court Sharon Press Excellence in ADR Award. Gregory Firestone was also specifically thanked by the Florida Supreme Court in Opinion No. SC02-1574) for his successful mediation of a family court rule dispute before the Florida Supreme Court.

 

Dr. Firestone lectures and conducts mediation training for courts and/or government programs throughout the United States and internationally, is coauthor of Mediation Works: Make It Work For You, a family mediation orientation video published by the Florida Supreme Court, and has published numerous articles on mediation.
